Setting or Resetting Database Password

To set, reset or unset a database password in Access, you must first open the database "exclusively".

  1. Open Microsoft Access from your START menu or other shortcut without first opening your database
  2. On the menubar, click File, Open.
  3. In the dialog box, navigate to find the database and single click on the database name. Then click the arrow next to the Open button and choose Open Exclusive.
  4. Once the database is open, on the menubar, click Tools, Security, Set Database Password.
  5. In the Set Password dialog box, type the password you want.
  6. You must remember the password, because there's no way of recovering the password if you forget it, except to send your database to Microsoft for password recovery.
