Bronze AwardThe Bronze Award is the highest award for Junior Girl Scouts. This award shows that you have developed leadership skills, learned about things that interest you, and provided a special community service.

If you are interested ... Start thinking about a major community service project that you would like to do. The project should be a new project that meets a need in the community. It can be done on your own or with a few other girls. It should be project that takes approximately 15 hours to complete, including 7-8 hours to plan the project and 7-8 hours to do the project. Work with your Girl Scout leader or another adult to plan the project. Do requirements 1, 2, and 3 in any order to prepare for the project. After these are done, you are ready to begin your project.

1. Earn two badges in an area related to the project.

For example, if your project involves working with children, you might earn Caring for Children and Toymaker. Or if your project involves the environment, you might earn Your Outdoor Surroundings and Wildlife. If your project involves teaching science, you could earn two science-related badges. If your project involves teaching others about stress management, you could earn Stress Less and another health-related badge.

SignsThe signs are special badges that are based othe four Girl Scout Program goals. They are: * Sign of the Star: being your best * Sign of the Rainbow: building relationships with others * Sign of the Sun: building your set of values; and Sign of the World: making the world a better place. We will earn the Sign of the Star in troop meetings.

Read pages 21-25 in the "Adventures in Girl Scouting" chapter in the Handbook. Decide what leadership qualities you would like to develop and write them down.
Do at least six hours of community service. (In our troop, you can earn the Service from the Heart patch for three or more hours of community service.)
Serve in a leadership role in your troop, school, church or other group for at least one month. You can be patrol leader, project leader, leader's or teacher's assistant, treasurer, secretary/recorder, etc.
In a troop meeting, tell the group what you did and what you learned.

4. Do the Bronze Award Project.

The Bronze Award project should be a 15 hour project, including about 7-8 hours of planning and about 7-8 hours of doing. It must be a new project that meets a need in the community. It cannot be a fund-raising project. You may do it on your own or with other girls. If you do it with other girls, each girl must be responsible for a specific part of the project and should be able to describe what she did.
