Lorraine: I'm home! (Enters and sits down.) Lance, I have to do a report about Juliette Low. Do you know anything about her?

Lance: Humph. Did you say something?

Lorraine: Yes I said something. I said I have to do a report on Juliette Low and I WAS going to ask you if you knew anything about her.

Lance: Lowes? That's a department store. That has nothing to do with our conversation. Oh wait, that reminds, me! My great, great aunt was Juliette Low.

Lorraine: Yes, but do you know anything about her?

Lance: Wha? Hmmm? Ask your sisters.

Lorraine: Katie! Gwen! Mary Kate! Ashley!

(Katie, Gwen, Mary Kate and Ashley enter. Katie looks mopey.)

Ashley: Katie, you should shop.

Mary Kate: Why don't you run to the mall or something?

Katie: (Katie starts to leave but then sits back down.) I can't; I gave up shopping for Lent.

Lorraine: I have to do a report about Juliette Low.

Ashley: Well, you know she founded Girl Scouts in 1912.

Mary Kate: You could call your Aunt Sally. She knows a lot about it. She was in the first troop.

Gwen: Yes, she was in Girl Scouts.

Lorraine: Okay. (Dials phone. Mary Kate leaves.)

Aunt Sally (off stage): Hello.

Lorraine: Hello. Aunt Sally,

Aunt Sally: Hello, Lorraine.

Lorraine: I have to do a report about Juliette Low and I wondered if you knew anything about her.

Aunt Sally: Why yes, I was in her troop back in the year 1912. I played the guitar you know.

Lorraine: That's nice, what else do you know about her?

Aunt Sally: Let's see. Do you want me to come over? Okay, I'll be there in a few seconds. Bye bye now.

Lorraine: Guys!! Aunt Sally alert! Go! (The other sisters run off the stage.)

Ashley: Under the table guys!

Lorraine: Lance! Go home!

Lance: Why?

Lorraine. Aunt Sally. She hates … umm …. babysitters.

Ashley: Just leave Lance. (Lance leaves)

Aunt Sally (offstage): Hello! You're playing hide and seek? Now who's seeking you? I can see Gwen there, don't think I'm stupid.

Gwen: I'm working a paper.

Ashley: And I'm telling her what to write.

Katie: And I'm checking for gum under the table.

Aunt Sally (enters and sits down next to Lorraine). That's just plain disgusting.

Lorraine: Yes it is.

Aunt Sally. So, I happen to have brought my guitar today.

Lorraine: Well, I'm doing a report on Juliette Low …

Aunt Sally: Yes, I know. We used to play songs in the olden troop. In the olden days. Yup. Now take notes on this, Lorraine. (Aunt Sally plays a song.) We used to play this in sing-a-longs.

Ashley: (re-enters) You had sing-a-longs?

Aunt Sally: Yes. (Plays more)

Ashley: Do you think you could give Lorraine a little bit more information about Juliette Low herself?

Aunt Sally: Yup. Let's see. She got a grain of good luck rice stuck in her ear. After her wedding. Her and her husband split up and then he kind of died. She started Girl Scouts, you know. She thought that girls could play basketball; girls of all colors could be together. Girls with disabilities and girls without disabilities … and girls like you (points at Katie) miss mall-mall.

Ashley: Aunt Sally, that wasn't nice.

Aunt Sally. I know.

Katie: I'm going to the mall. (leaves the room)

Aunt Sally: Let's see. Lance, get out of here. (Starts to play more guitar).

(Katie comes back.)

Ashley: Aunt Sally, you can really play!

Katie: Yeah!

Aunt Sally: Why thank you!

Aunt Sally: Well, let's see …. she used to say … well I'm just making this up … but she was the sort of person who said that a girl could play rock and roll and then go home and play with little dollies.

Ashley: Very useful information.

Lorraine: Interesting choice of wording. Well, I'm going to start writing my paper now.

Aunt Sally: Okay. I'm going to go now. (Exits)

Lorraine: (Gets some paper and pen and sits back down.) Let's see. What else do we know about Juliette Low?

Ashley: Well, I know that she got the idea for Girl Scouts from England, from Boy Scouts and Girl Guides.

Lorraine: Anything else?

Gwen: She was born in Savannah.

Katie: How long does this report have to be?

Lorraine: I don't know. I'll go work on it. (Leaves.)
