Workshops
The Skills Library offers a series of workshops on weekdays and Saturdays on a variety of technology topics. Workshops are offered for groups of students ages 11 and over and for adults. Groups are small, with 4-6 participants and with plenty of opportunity for discussion and hands-on practice. Customized workshops for staff at your company, school or organization are also available.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS
Lego Mindstorm Robotics(TM)
A class for adults who are interested in using Lego Mindstorm Robotics with their school or organization. Work with a small group of others to go through Lego's introductory lessons and build and experiment with a basic robot. Learn about robots and ties to science, technology, design and creative thinking. Discuss ways to guide students as they get started with Mindstorms.
Access Databases - Planning and Creating a New Database
An introduction to MS Access databases, from planning the database to creating tables to adding forms, queries and reports. Workshop participants will create a database on a topic of interest and explore each of the steps involved in setting up the database. This workshop focuses on applications relevant to schools and youth programs, including databases that students might create for classroom projects and/or databases that teachers or staff might create to manage information about their programs.
Advanced Access Projects - Analyzing Data with Queries, Reports and Graphs.
A class for experienced Access users, focusing on analyzing student data, survey results or other data sources, using queries, reports and graphs. Use queries to calculate totals, averages, minimum and maximum values of a field, by various groups. Create a series of reports and make the reports available to your users on a report menu. Create a pie chart, bar graph, or line graph that updates automatically as your data changes. Exchange ideas with others in the group for an enjoyable day!
BUILDING AN ONLINE SKILLS PORTFOLIO
View the Skills Library's Online Skills Portfolio and see and discuss a variety of electronic products that students can create for their portfolios. This workshop is suitable both for those who are interested in using the Skills Library's portfolio and for those who would like ideas for their own electronic portfolios.
